Here we will talk about the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, currently airing on Cartoon Network. (New Episodes premiere Fridays at 8:30 PM.) Thoughts/reviews on new episodes, deep and in-depth analysis, and just good old fashioned geeking out about The 'Wars with fellow fans.
My thoughts on the latest episode: The Citadel.
Wow......... I'm not sure how I feel about this one, guys. After the thought provoking and saga changing Mortis trilogy, I think it would be hard for anyone to top that. That being said let's talk about the good and bad things in my eyes.
The Good: The interactions between Ahsoka and Anakin were really true to the characters, especially of Anakin putting his foot down on something to protect a person he cares about, and Ahsoka just following his teachings and not listening. Evan Piel = BADASS. I think it's his small stature, European accent (I'm thinking Russian.) and his sense of humor that won me over. And lest we forget a little character, known as TARKIN. Wow, I was so excited to see him appear in the series, knowing where he and Anakin are headed in the long run. In the films we didn't spend much time with ol' bird face, so to see how he met the future Darth Vader and how their relationship will flourish will be interesting. (Not to mention making his appearance in Revenge of the Sith have a little more depth, and not seem like he just appeared out of nowhere and he and Vader just met that day, now we know other wise.) UGNAUGHTS <3
The Bad: Yeah......... I know what you think I'm going to talk about next. Everyone's been talking about it. Jedi in Carbonite. Now don't get me wrong, I thought the premise was great but the execution (at least to me)......... wasn't. Coming from what we know in Empire Strikes Back, carbonite freezing is not a simple walk in the park. There's a risk of death, and not to mention a really likely case of hibernation sickness. Here.. not so much. You'd think perhaps the reason for their relative ease with the freezing process was that they were jedi, (Being able to withstand certain things more than others) and Han Solo was not. But you have to remember that there were clones with them, and they themselves didn't feel much except a crink in the neck. I think this scene does two things: It explains how Anakin knew to freeze Han Solo, but not how he learned of it. In one Clone Wars comic where this exact scene also played out, Anakin at least mentioned he heard about smugglers and bounty hunters trying this method, although it was risky. I would love to have Anakin explain something similar in this episode. Last thoughts on this, the ease of the carbon freezing felt like it made Han Solo's sacrifice seem not so great. Which saddens me. And it also makes everyone's favorite smuggler seem like he wasn't made of tough stuff, since he almost didn't survive what we saw to be a "simple" procedure.
The villain. Christopher Walken.. in Star Wars? Really? I wasn't feeling him so much (And he was voiced by the great James Arnold Taylor, who I am a HUGE fan of.) I don't feel like his character was that menacing or fleshed out, but then again it was his first episode.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. What were your feelings on this episode, and the next ones? (Chewbacca! YAY <3)
